CLIMATE EMERGENCY PLAN

We’ve declared a climate emergency with Tourism Declares.

Here’s our five-point climate commitment:

1 - REDUCE

We are committed to reducing the carbon impact on every itinerary we create or sell to our clients where possible. We offer alternative methods of travel to the destination and showcase how each method impacts the environment.

We only work with suppliers and accommodation options that demonstrate sustainability practices and actively try to help clients reduce their impact whilst travelling.

To continue to promote low impact itineraries in the country. We campaign for cycling, hiking, kayaking and staying in lodges/hotels with an excellent social-economic impact on the community. When you compare this type of travel versus giant cruise ships, luxury all-inclusive resorts and coach based trips, you can quickly see how it impacts the environment.

We have always advocated ‘slow travel’ and localised experiences, which we continue to promote online and via social media.

2 – SMALL RIPPLES MAKE BIG WAVES

Continue to promote that small steps can make a big difference in the long run. We as a company will also strive to educate and learn about how we can continue to grow as a good company.

We operate as a paper-free company. All itineraries and travel documents are delivered digitally by email.

We are passionate about climate both in travel and our everyday lives. We encourage and support suppliers to participate in climate action at higher levels. We also try to educate our social media following on ways that they can reduce their impact.

3 – INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION

We emphasise key information before travelling by ensuring our clients are always aware of the issues facing the country they are travelling to and how their trip has been designed to impact their destination positively.

We make it clear that Travelling Whale donates 1% of profits to the conservation of Whales and the importance of this message in declaring a climate emergency. Clients are also welcome to donate more after before or after travelling with us.

4 – GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICE

We will continue to encourage our current suppliers to adopt climate-friendly practices and work with hotels that have good sustainability practices in place. When working with new suppliers, we clearly outline our values and ask every supplier to declare how they are also trying to create a positive change using a formulated document.

We will continue to encourage suppliers to make their declaration through Tourism Declares. We will also continue to connect and use Tourism Declares to find suitable suppliers for the future and share practices that have worked for us throughout the process.

We will be open-minded to revisiting and examining our policies and practices for their validity and effectiveness.

5 - MEASURE

Every year we will look to measure our sustainable operation, performance and impact. We will analyse how we can improve year on year and provide a progress report by the end of August 2022.

We are committed to publicly sharing our progress, updating our peers and partners on an annual basis. We share our journey with both the local and international community on our website (https://www.travellingwhale.com).
