TRAVELLING WHALE
IN THE PRESS

Highlighting some fantastic articles of Travelling Whale in the press. We are proud as a sustainable tour operator and travel agency to be featured in these valued publications since launching.

United Nations Day: How the travel industry is building back more responsibly in the wake of coronavirus

“It might seem a perverse time to launch a new product in the travel industry – particularly one that’s guided more by people and planet than by profit. But fortune favours the bold; at least, that’s what Travelling Whale’s founders, Hattie Seal and Annabel Upson, are hoping. The new female-led online travel agency is aimed squarely at travellers who want to enjoy sustainable adventures around the world.”

How to travel in uncertain times

“2020 was the year of the staycation and we believe this will continue into 2021. The UK is likely to stay popular with people wanting to holiday closer to home until we get used to the new normal. What we are certain of is that when travel opens up again, clients will want more from travel, and will be eager to enjoy all that has been denied to them; experiencing new cultures, trying new delicacies and connecting with locals.”

Travelling Whale Sustainable Travel Tips

“Travelling Whale is a female-founded sustainable travel company with a philosophy that small ripples make big waves.

Travelling Whale offers bespoke tailor-made itineraries and small group tours domestically and internationally. The majority of the trips can be amended to the traveller’s personal needs, whether you’re looking to stay in a treehouse in Costa Rica, trek to see gorillas in the Ugandan forests or climb Little Adam’s Peak in Sri Lanka.”

Inspirational Women in Travel: Hattie Seal & Annabel Upson

“We were inspired to start Travelling Whale by our passion for travel and our own extensive travel experiences. We also wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to travel better. We talked about it for a long time, and there never seemed to be the right opportunity, due to job opportunities, travel adventures and a hiccup with Cancer. We never expected a redundancy because of COVID-19 would be the push needed to start pursuing our passion.”

London Covid: London experts reveal how expensive and different summer holidays will be after lockdown

“We’re all longing for a summer vacation back in ‘normal’ times right now, but holidays post-lockdown could and should be very different, according to London travel experts.

Hattie Seal, 29, and Annabel Upson, 30, launched their Dalston-based company Travelling Whale in the midst of the pandemic – offering travel services and group tours in the UK and around the world.”

How we set up sustainable agency Travelling Whale during a pandemic

“Our aim is to rethink how people travel; that’s our main goal. We are trying to get people to make small changes that will eventually have a bigger impact. We work with smaller suppliers in destinations and with companies that share similar values, like Intrepid. We are trying to encourage people to be better travellers. When we send them their documents, we give tips such as avoiding single-use plastic, visiting destinations using one flight and using more local, independent hotels and restaurants”

“Getting a business off the ground in the pandemic might sound a huge challenge, but the founders of Travelling Whale feel they are creating the right kind of travel brand for these strange times – one that will suit the shift in mood towards more sustainable living.”

The Butterfly Effect of a Good Decision

“The idea of travelling is even more thrilling now that our lives have been put on hold indefinitely. But, instead of returning to our previous ways of travel, could we consider a more sustainable approach?
I sat with Annabel & Hattie from Travelling Whale, a company whose aim is to inspire and create sustainable travel adventures.
